If I found a bat in my bedroom, does it mean there are more?  I can't find any and don't know how it got in seeing I'm on a second floor or an apartment building...

Jolee, are you in the US? and if so let us know what state your in to help us help u.  What were the approximate temps outside during the day and evening when you encountered the bat? :thumbsup1:

I'm in New York.  It was about 30 outside and I think it may have been injured because he didn't fly, when we were trying to put him in a bucket, he ran/scampered under my bed.  He was eventually caught and we let him out the window, but don't know how he got in, which is what bothers me the most

 Also, and it was about 11 pm, when I heard him.  He was making a noise that sounded more like a ticking sound than a screaching sound.

It is possible the bat or other bats could be hibernating in the building somewhere.  Just curious, how far is the nearest lake pond or year round water source?  If it was in Oct. -Nov I would think the bat might be on a stopover to a local hibernation spot potentially but since it appeared in late Dec.-early Jan.  there is indeed a possibility that this bat was hibernating in this building somewhere.  It could also be ill as you mention.  If you had resided in the south the bat might have still been potentially active but given it is the STATE of New York this guy should be sleeping.  Many bats do awaken on their own during hibernation for just a brief period for a (brief stretch).

There is a lake about 5 miles away.  It has been seasonably warm for this time of year, the temperature goes from 20 one week to 48 the following day, could this be the reason for it waking up?  Do you think it came through the hole I have in my wall.  I have put steel wool in the hole I found, will this prevent further bats from betting into my bedroom.  I'm kinda nervous about find more in my bedroom while I'm sleeping.
